Description
You are bidding on a Virtuality SU 2000 Duo virtual reality arcade system!  This is it!  This is the arcade virtual reality system you saw in malls and amusement parks back in the mid-1990s, and now it's your chance to own one!Whether you're an arcade system collector, rare video game system enthusiast, amusement business operator, or high-tech tinkerer, the Virtuality SU 2000 Duo would be a fantastic addition to your collection.  This is a very rare type of system with a unique place in arcade gaming history, a direct result of the popular virtual reality craze that struck the 1990s, and it's in very good working condition.  It's also a major hit at parties! Please note that I am donating a huge portion of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.  Rest assured that in addition to getting a fantastic video game system, you'd also be helping the battle against cancer. The system:The Virtuality SU 200 Duo is comprised of a "master" pod and a "slave" pod.  Each pod has a fully-tracked headset with an eye-popping stereoscopic 60-degree field of view, and a 6-degree-of-freedom "flying" joystick for interacting with the virtual environment. The master pod contains the main computer.  The computer is actually a 486DX-based ISA system with custom audio / 3D video cards, Polhemus FaskTrak boards, and dual CD-ROM drives.  The computer was refurbished about three and a half years ago.The auction includes the following:Virtuality SU 2000 Duo:  Master and slave pods. The following games:  Dactyl Nightmare 2: Race for the Eggs, Zone Hunter, Missile Command VR. (additional games can be purchased from the manufacturer)Spare "flying" joystickSpare headset (disassembled)Interlink tray to protect cables running between the podsExternal CRT monitors for spectators/customers.Maintenance manualUPS for surge protection.  Don't count on the battery actually working, though. The system is in good condition, and here are the known issues:The audio in one headset is not working.  Suspect burned-out fuse, but the external speakers are loud enough that it doesn't really matter too much. One of the headsets has an LCD panel that seems to take about 2 minutes to light up after system power-up.Scuff marks on the exterior fibreglass shells, which come with normal use. Some of the exterior lights are burnt-out.Shipping:Winning bidder pays shipping.  I will only ship within the continental United States.Be aware that each pod is approximately 5' x 4' x 4' and that the shipment will come to a total shipping weight around 750 lbs or more.  As a result, shipping will be via freight and will be expensive.  The shipping cost will vary dramatically based on buyer's distance from St. Louis, MO.  For example, sample quotes suggest that shipping the pods from St. Louis, MO to Los Angeles, CA would be in the ballpark of $1100.I will endeavor to find the most reasonably-priced freight forwarding service.Payment:I accept PayPal, personal check, or money order.  In any case, I will not ship until after the payment clears. Here's how I envision the payment and shipping procedure:Once the auction has ended, I will begin packing the pods and the included items and take bids from freight shippers.  After I have obtained the most reasonable quote, the winning bidder will pay me, and then I will finalize the shipping arrangements.  Finally, the winning bidder will directly pay the shipper after the delivery has been made.  Repeat:  The winning bidder will pay the shipper directly!Miscellany:The system is used and being auctioned AS-IS.  I cannot accept returns, but will provide contact information for the vendor, who can provide parts and refurbishment services. The first picture shows the bottom of the pods without the fiberglass "skirt" panels.  Those panels are included with the pods, I just had them removed when the picture was takenOn Oct-05-08 at 11:19:53 PDT, seller added the following information:I can't commit to specific delivery times and dates at this stage of the auction. The actual dates will depend on the freight company, the destination, and the method of payment. Once a shipping company is selected, we can work out the specific transit times.
